June 29

Busy, hot day!!  We went to the Highlands Games at the Alaska State Fairgrounds in Palmer.  Tate petted a Highland cow, wanted to kiss it but Mama drew the line at that.  (Red hat, super man shirt)

We watched a few events (caber toss, hammer throw, sheaf toss).   

And we saw a band called The Fire Scottish Band. The music was great!

We set up a bouncy house for tomorrow’s party and then went to Bleeding Heart Brewery to visitfriends. 

June 27 - hot day in Wasilla

Unusually hot for Wasilla this week, we had a pool party and water fights today. Fun!

June 26 - Happy Birthday Hannah!! One year old today!!

Tate and I went to the Wasilla Farmers Market with Mom and Dad today. It was a great place, we ate Ping Pongs for lunch - tasty!  We met a lady with 2 dogs. Lily is a Bouvier Flanders, she is a working dog. Her owner told me she opens doors for people in wheelchairs!!  I want a dog like that!  Tate liked her too, lots of wooly fur to pet!

June 24 - Kenai Peninsula Weekend

Last Thursday we went to Hope on the Kenai Peninsula. We camped one night and then went to Sterling, where Britt, a friend of Lynice’s, let us camp at her place. We went to the outdoor market in Kenai, saw the rodeo in Soldotna, and Dad and Kris went salmon fishing (no luck). Back late last night. Poor Lynice had to work but I got to sleep in!!

 

June 17 - trip to Anchorage

Tate woke me up this morning by climbing into my bed and saying “high five Auntie”.  So much fun!

We had a short trip to Anchorage to see Tate’s surgeon for follow up, then came home to play outside. Waster is a big hit!!

Gaara loves to follow Tate, even when he’s on the bike with Grandpa 

June 16 - Talkeetna

We went to Talkeetna yesterday.   It was fun, we bought some cool souvenirs. 

Here we are in front of Once in a Blue Moon. 

It was a tiring day, I watched over Tate while he napped on the way home. 

Today we are having a “regroup day” - laundry, shopping, meal planning for the week.   Boring but necessary!

June 14 - Happy Birthday Tanys!!

Fun day again today. Went shopping, Tate liked “Auntie rides” 

And we went to the swimming pool this afternoon and had a blast. 

June 13 - in Wasilla

Lynice and Kris worked today so....I got to help with Tate. We had a fun day, spent a lot of time outside in the backyard. 

June 11 - Hello Lynice, Kris and Tate

We crossed into Alaska yesterday afternoon, spent more than 1 1/2 hours waiting at the border behind a truck with radioactive material. However the flowers were beautiful where we waited!!

We stayed at Tok last night, and today we had a bit of construction along the way.  That’s a good thing, we look forward to better highways next year. 

We also saw some beautiful swans!  This one is hard to see, hiding among the trees. 

And the very best part of today - we arrived at Lynice’s!!!  I’m so happy!!

June 10 - into Alaska

Stayed at Cottonwood RV Park on Kluane Lake, YT. So beautiful there, although very dry and in need of rain. 

If you travel on the Alaska Highway and see trees like these stumpy ones, brace yourself!!  Road is going to get rough!

And look what we saw this morning!!  A grizzly bear!

We stopped at Beaver Creek, look at this big burl!!

We are having lunch, will pass into AK in about 30 km.  So excited!!!

June 9 in Whitehorse

Last year we drove through smoke to get home. This year, we could see forest burned on both sides of highway. 

We stayed at Squanto Lake last night, so beautiful. 

They have bat houses at Squanto Lake - few mosquitoes but not too bad so ....maybe helps??

Hope you can read this information about bat nurseries, it’s really interesting!🙂

We are at Whitehorse right now, then plan to head for Kluane Lake for tonight.

Seeing some amazing scenery and wildlife.  We are at Watson Lake Yukon, just getting fuel and having lunch.  The trip is going well, quite a bit of rain while driving. 

June 7

In Fort Nelson now, won’t have cell service TIL Watson Lake. Saw our first black bear just before Fort Nelson.  

June 6

Rained off and on most of day, and pretty cool. Down to 2 degrees C around the BC border!!  We stopped at Fort St John, having pork chops forsupper. Navigated our first steep grade coming in to Taylor, lots more of those to come.

Said goodbye to Saskatchewan today!  Windy for travelling. Staying at Vermillion tonight.
